Convocations - Page 14

Here's a great classic combo (great for how classic it is, not how good the combo is). It was inspired by two pretty famous cards from Beta and Legends, and illustrated by Stu Suchit. Finally we have a combo where the individual cards should be apparent to people familiar with cards from this early era of magic. Can you guess the combo?

Did you guess it?

The text on both cards are pretty small, you can can go to gatherer to read what Mirror Universe and Lich do, or read the description from the comic below.

This black/Artifact duo is a game-winning combination - if you successfully pull it off. First, sacrifice Mirror Universe, an artifact that allows you to switch life-point totals with your opponent during your upkeep. Next, cast Lich, a black enchantment which make you lose all life while the number of cards you have in play essentially represents your life total. If both cards remain intact when your next upkeep phase rolls around, use the Mirror to exchange life totals with your opponent. You will have what your opponent had and your opponent will have what you did - nothing! You win!

I don't know why this Lich has a snazzy suit on rather than ancient rags, but it's sufficiently disturbing. The crazy grin, the glowing white finger tips, the square eyes, and low angle are great. Sure the mirror isn't actually reflecting the Lich, since we should be seeing the back of one or the other, but that just adds to the feel of the piece. It works so well, that despite how good I think it it, it makes me not consider this as one of my favorites because I don't want to look at it for long periods of time!
